Morane Saulnier type L Parasol
Wings & fuselage
Construction of the fuselage
The fuselage is constructed from aluminium box tubing, precision steel tubes and steel plate.
The complete fuselage and steering system was made in the body shop of the VTI school Ypres.
With grateful thanks to the main project sponser " Actum Services " Poperinge, Belgium.

Construction of the wings.
The beams (spars) are made from Cedar wood (Cedrus spec.), the ribs are made of plywood.
All components are nailed together using copper nails , this allows for the flexing of the wings.
The rounded corners are created by gluing veneer layers in a mould.
A CNC machine was used to cut the plywood forms for the ribs.
Wing data:
- length: 5,50 m / 18 ft
- width: 1,80 m / 6ft
- weight: 22 kg / 48 lbs

Covering of,the wings:
Polyester canvas was used to cover the wings and fuselage. This was glued onto the wooden ribs.
On the untherside of the wing the canvas was sewn onto the frame using a special type of knot.
To create the necessary tension, the polyster canvas was heated using a flat-iron.
Final tension was obtained by creating a chemical reaction with the varnish.

Finishing:
When the varnish tension was completed, the VTI body shop applied the paint colour, finishing with a coat of clear varnish, using water based material.
The roundels on the wing were painted by hand. The colours Denoting the French National Flag.

Suspension frame:
The wing suspension frame is located above the central part of the plane, this unit supports both wingsections and the tension of the steel cables attached to the wings.
